Half his own memories and half Ventus's-- But this is a place Vanitas knows. If only because of--
There's someone nearby, and there's not even enough time to decide whether or not to hide. They move into view, and for not the first time, Vanitas is glad for the mask worn. Because this wouldn't be as hilarious otherwise.
Because, this is the boy whose face Vanitas gained.
[Wandering around the islands is something that Sora's done often since he defeated Xemnas, and why not? After so much traveling, he's got to admit that the islands seem smaller than ever, which means that he ends up patrolling it multiple times a day.
But despite that, it's not as if Sora ever expects to find anything, and when he comes across a strange masked figure who starts laughing the second he sees him --
Well, if that's not a warning sign, then what is?
Sora's Keyblade appears instantly as he hunches over into a battle stance, eyes narrowed.] Who are you?!
[ Ha, was this kid for real? Whipping out his toy keyblade just like that, as if Vanitas is just a common mob to break apart. It makes him laugh louder, that reaction, those words (that stance even, it's familiar...)-- He eventually ceases, and shrugs fluidly, his gloved hands raising to his shoulders, palms to the sky. His head shakes condescendingly.
Who could I possibly be? I wonder.
Let the boy sweat. There is no reason to give anything like that away so easily. At least, not without a show first. Vanitas didn't come all this way for nothing. ]
[While the laughing and the dramatic gestures seems familiar in all the worst ways (the Organization had a flair for being flashy, after all), Sora doesn't think that this stranger is a part of that group. No black coat, for one thing, unless this is all a big trick.
Whoever he is, he somehow found his way here, which is no small feat. He either has a gummi ship, has access to corridors of Darkness, or can move between worlds in some other way. Regardless, Sora isn't trusting him for one second.
But the mysterious figure hasn't attacked him yet, which means that Sora also holds back for the moment. He takes a few steps forward, frowning as he waits for an explanation that doesn't come.]
You know, after a while laughing like that doesn't mean much. Are you just here to make a scene, or what?
[When the stranger finally makes to remove the helmet, Sora keeps his gaze on him, not wanting to take his eyes off this suspicious person for one second.
But what he sees at that point is not what he expected, not even in the slightest. Sora had realized, in the back of his mind, that the person's voice was familiar, but it had been muffled by the helmet. Now it's clear that it's his own voice, his own face, even the hair -- but everything's wrong somehow. Yellow eyes, black hair, and the tone of voice is really nothing like his.
After Roxas, Sora knows that just about anything can surface up to bite him like this, but that doesn't make him any more clear on what's happening here. He stares in shock for a moment and then drags in a breath.] What...?
Aw. Well, there's a boring reaction. Here I thought you would scream out or gnash your teeth or some other kind of foolishness. It's too bad.
[ Like he intends to explain anything to this person at all. Not without getting a better show out of it. Or even-- Ha! Wouldn't it be amusing to war against one who has your face?
Maybe. It'd give him something to do, at least. Something other than seethe under the torrent of emotions that's fighting its way upward. ]
[Scream out? Gnash his teeth? Sora's been through enough that there's no way he would react like that, and his shock transforms into anger as he takes a few steps toward the phantom.]
I know my heart's been through a lot, and that it's touched people and hurt others. So are you going to tell me what happened or not?!
[He's not interested in being led along or kept in the dark. Sora's doing his best to make up for his own mistakes, even those he'd never been aware of making. If this person is another example of some wrong step he took, then he has to face it head-on.]
[ And more and more boring as the minutes drag on by. This messed-up hero complex is one of the things Vanitas loves to hate-- The kind of mentality that believes that no matter what bad is done, it can be fixed. That everything can be redeemed. How pathetic.
He waves a hand in front of his face, brushing off the other's words, and starts to stroll around the area. ]
Your heart, tell you, et cetera, et cetera. Listen--
[ You little clown. Vanitas stops and spreads his arms out. ]
Did it ever occur to you that it's not about you at all? You think that could make its way through your thick, little head? You're just something that was used.
[It's not as if Sora hasn't been talked down to in the past, but it's a little different when it's coming from someone who looks like him and sounds like him -- and in a way totally different from how Roxas does. Sora can't feel any resonance between his heart and this stranger's, but clearly there's a connection, and he's going to get to the bottom of it somehow.]
Maybe I was just used. It's... happened before. [With the Organization and Roxas and everything else, it's almost become routine by now, as much as that bothers him.]
But either way, you look like me and I look like you, so something has to have happened. Is it really worth it to keep it from me? [After all, this guy wouldn't be here unless he planned to spill the beans eventually, right?]
[ ...This is annoying. More than he can say. Enough that it's canceling out any amusement this interaction could provide-- And let's face it, it wasn't too amusing from the get-go. Vanitas had no intention of coming across Sora, no intention at all of playing this little game.
He was only and always searching for what was left of Ventus, and he had found himself here. What a joke.
Vanitas only shakes his head. ]
You really think I'm here because of you? I just happened to take a wrong turn, Keyblade Wielder.
A wrong turn? [Maybe this guy is telling the truth, as it's not the first time that someone's ended up at Destiny Islands by accident, but Sora's still a little suspicious. How is it that someone with the same face as him just shows up here by accident?
He's still got his Keyblade in hand, but he lets it drop to his side and sighs as he realizes that this guy has already wasted a bunch of his time. He wants to get to the bottom of this, though.]

Vanitas could sigh at it, the poor saps, but in the end, he just didn't care.
And this boy had given him the most perfect of openings.
He snaps the locks on the helmet, clicks it off to tuck under one arm, and looks at the boy, an eyebrow raised in amusement. ]
A scene? Me? Shouldn't you be asking that to yourself?
