He's seen all of the reports in history texts and biographies, speculating about their relationship and whether or not they had been involved. There's no account of the kiss they'd shared before Steve boarded the Valkyrie -- Colonel Phillips had kept his mouth shut, apparently -- and it's nice to have at least that one secret.
Except that it doesn't need to be a secret now, if they don't want it to be. Steve holds in everything he's feeling on that front, though, because springing it on Peggy right now would be wrong. Once she's had a chance to catch her breath, once they're in a quiet and fairly private place together -- maybe then. If he can work up the nerve.

He doesn't stop walking, though, wanting to get her sorted out and away from this facility as soon as he can. He tries not to walk too fast, aware that his legs are a lot longer than hers. ]

[ He realizes it probably sounds ridiculous, but hopefully not more ridiculous than the "Howling Commandos." ] They're other people who are like me, but in different ways.
