It was as Peggy walked toward him that Steve realized she was injured. The way that her uniform -- which was usually impeccable and neat -- was out of place, the glass falling from her hair, and some nicks on her hands and face...

He swallowed hard, fighting all the urges to step away from someone who had to be some kind of trap in a familiar form. If this was the result of some villain trying to get under his skin, Steve still didn't know how they'd found him here or gotten through the security system.

All he wanted was to believe that it was real, but he had to hold his ground for now. He didn't back away from her, but he didn't reach out for her either.

"I think I'm the one who should be asking you that question," he said, an attempt to be guarded but his tone wasn't quite hard enough. "Peggy, I crashed the plane, I was buried in ice for... for seventy years. SHIELD found me and defrosted me--"

He paused, moving over to the closest window to pull the curtains back and show her the view outside: a modern New York street.
