[ Although she won't admit it out loud anytime soon, right now she's just too frightened and confused to want to be alone. Steve is familiar and a safety of sorts, and she feels like the longer he stays near her, the easier it will be for her to get used to this new reality.

Well, that and... she wants to be with him, plain and simple. If she has any say in it she won't take her eyes off of him anytime soon. The love of her life, the one she thought she'd lost so long ago— alive and well, after all. It's irrational but she fears that if they part, this will turn out to be no more than a dream.

A soft laugh leaves her at his answer, and she shrugs, looking entirely unapologetic. ] I couldn't resist. Although I suppose I'm in no place to talk. [ She is in a much similar predicament, after all. ] You do look very fit for a man well over his nineties.

[ It's that laugh that makes Steve feel like everything is going to work itself out eventually. He remembers that from the war, too. Even when the fight seemed hopeless, even when all of them were worn down and just barely getting one foot in front of the other, teasing a laugh out of Peggy would suddenly make the world look a little brighter. It's no different now.

He figures that's just how it is when you have feelings for someone.

Maybe that's why the flirtation falls out of his mouth, even as the elevator doors slide open and he steps inside, pushing the button for his floor. ] You're not looking too bad yourself, you know. [ Which is particularly impressive considering the whirlwind of a day that she's had. ] You'll have to tell me what your secret is.
