( there's a small smile, but it's not amusement, rather fondness. it isn't often that she can say that she's begun a new lifetime and find an old friend in it. her old friends are now all dead )
It seems that we both have a story.
( her heels echo with every step, hands in her pockets as helen steps into arms reach. she's perhaps a little more relaxed than the last time he'd seen her, though little else has changed -- simply clothes, and her hair. it's now brown where it was red, and longer )
It's good to see you again, Steve. It isn't often that I get to say those words.

She's standing near to him now, but he doesn't get off his guard just yet. He's willing to believe that it's her, but that doesn't mean that he's comfortable. Not until he has a better idea of what's going on here. ]
Yeah, me neither. [ His response is somewhat distracted, as he studies her face. All the changes are cosmetic, she hasn't aged. Steve's met other people who are 'immortal,' or long-lived, but... ] If you wanted to meet, I'm guessing that means you're ready to explain how you're alive. Don't tell me you got cryogenically frozen too.
[ It's a joke, though it falls a little flat because Steve's still busy being shocked. ]

( helen says, as if what she's about to say isn't difficult to believe as it is )
Though I'm afraid that when you first met me I wasn't entirely honest then. I'd already lived two lifetimes by then.
( she's quiet for a few seconds, giving him a little time to absorb what she might mean by that )
It's called an abnormality. Mine grants me with an extended lifespan.
( how extended she doesn't quite know, but she's already 160 )

It's a lot to let sink in all the same, and Steve is quiet for a few moments before he closes the rest of the distance between them, lifting a hand to set on her shoulder. ]
I get why you didn't tell me, but I'm glad our paths managed to cross now. Why didn't you contact me sooner?
[ Of course he has more questions about this abnormality, about what she's been up to, but he'll go one at a time. ]

There never seemed to be the right time.
( she always had so much to do, and given what helen had heard about his time in the present she'd considered not contacting him at all, giving him the opportunity to focus on the now rather than someone he'd known decades ago )
Unfortunately now isn't just a social call.
( she may have gone with somewhere a little more public if it were )

Hearing that causes an immediate shift in his demeanor, from Steve Rogers to Cap. His back straightens, his gaze fixing on her, ready to hear the damages of whatever's gone wrong.
Because he has to assume there's some sort of problem, if she decided to reach out to him. ]
What is it? What's going on?
[ It would be natural for him to look or act weary at the prospect of yet another fight, but if he's feeling any of that he doesn't show it. He only wants to help her. ]

( though this time helen's referring to an object rather than a person. he hadn't known of it then -- she'd found it and destroyed after he'd gone under, or she thought that she'd destroyed it. apparently, her efforts had been in vain, and again it was at risk of falling into the wrong hands )
I can tell you more on the way. I'm afraid that I need your skills again.

Where are we headed?
[ Hopefully she can at least reveal that much, although he's ready to get on the move. As composed as Helen might be, Steve remembers her well enough to know that this is urgent. She wouldn't have reached out to him if it wasn't, and he's relived that he brought his shield now, if not his entire uniform. ]

( it was very far removed from the objects original location, and from germany, but it had exhanged hands quickly since being uncovered and only once it had settled in egypt had helen gotten word through a contact )
I have someone that will meet us there. They've kept me informed since its discovery.
( she's walking now, taking them towards the warehouse exit towards her car. there's a little information there that he can read but most of what she has she can tell him on the way )

Since "its" discovery? What are we talking about here?
[ There's obviously a lot to explain, and Steve would like to be caught up on things as quickly as possible, before they reach a place where they can't talk as freely.
They exit the warehouse and he follows Helen to what seems to be her car. As surreal as her being here is, Steve's gotten good at adapting quickly. ]

( whilst that may have sounded innocent enough there were more disastrous consequences if it fell into the wrong hands -- which it had. helen stands at her car door, seeing if steve is on board with the idea before getting in )
I don't expect your assistance, though any help would be greatly appreciated.
( she had few friends these days, particularly ones with such experience )

It's true that the artifact doesn't sound particularly dangerous with that brief description, but Steve knows all too well how something mundane can turn out to be world-breaking.
He scoffs and shakes his head, then reaches for the car door's handle. ]
Come on, Helen. What are we waiting for?
[ For old time's sake. ]
